About Science Ltd provides hands-on science workshops, activities, demonstrations and educational experiences designed to encourage curiosity, discovery and learning through practical science experiments.
We take the safety and wellbeing of all participants very seriously. Our team members delivering activities follow safeguarding, health and safety and risk assessment procedures. Where required, staff are DBS checked and trained to deliver safe and engaging science activities.
By booking or participating in an About Science Ltd activity, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
1. Our Commitment
About Science Ltd aims to provide high-quality, engaging and educational science experiences for all participants.
We are committed to delivering safe activities and maintaining a professional and supportive environment.
Participation in an About Science Ltd activity is at your own risk except in cases of proven negligence, breach of duty of care or lack of due diligence by About Science Ltd or its employees.
2. Payment and Booking Confirmation
Payment for activities may be made through our online booking system or via another agreed payment method.
Your place will only be confirmed once full payment has been received. When booking online, you will receive a confirmation email confirming your place.
3. Refunds, Transfers and Illness
If you cannot attend a booked activity, please contact us as soon as possible.
Participant Cancellations
7 Days or More Before the Session
Full refund minus:

Booking fee

£10 administration fee
Between 3–6 Days Before the Session
50% refund minus:

Booking fee
-
£10 administration fee
Less Than 3 Days Before the Session
No refund will be issued.
This applies to all workshops, camps, clubs and adult sessions.
Where possible and subject to availability we may offer:

Transfer to another session
-
Transfer of your place to a friend or another participant
4. Cancellation of Sessions
About Science Ltd will endeavour to run all scheduled activities. However, occasionally sessions may need to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control such as:

Severe weather
-
Venue issues
-
Staff illness
-
Safety concerns
If a session is cancelled, participants will be notified and we will offer either:
-
A replacement session
-
Credit towards a future activity
Cash refunds may not always be available.
5. Supervision of Children
For activities involving children:
-
Children must be supervised by a responsible adult where the activity requires it.
About Science Ltd staff cannot be responsible for supervising children outside the scope of the organised activity.
6. Behaviour and Withdrawal of Service
We aim to provide a positive and safe learning environment.
About Science Ltd reserves the right to refuse or withdraw services if a participant, parent, carer or visitor behaves in a manner that is unsafe, disruptive, abusive or unreasonable.
No refunds will be issued in such cases.
7. Health and Illness
To protect the wellbeing of all participants, please do not attend activities if you or your child:
-
Have a fever or have had one in the previous 24 hours
-
Have experienced vomiting or diarrhoea in the previous 48 hours
-
Have symptoms of contagious illnesses such as chickenpox, measles or hand, foot and mouth disease
If illness prevents attendance, please contact us and we will try to offer an alternative session where possible.
8. Health and Safety
About Science Ltd conducts risk assessments for all activities and venues.
Some sessions involve simple scientific experiments using safe materials. Participants must follow all safety instructions given by the activity leader.
Any items created during an activity should be used under adult supervision outside the event.
About Science Ltd cannot accept responsibility for damage caused by misuse of materials once the activity has ended.
9. Protection of Property
Participants are responsible for their personal belongings. About Science Ltd cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property during activities or events.
10. Equal Opportunities
About Science Ltd is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. Our activities are designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone regardless of race, culture, gender, religion, background, ability or disability.
11. Photography and Video
We may occasionally take photographs or videos during activities for promotional or educational purposes.
If you do not wish for you or your child to appear in photographs, please inform us before the activity begins.
Participants may take photographs of their own children but must respect the privacy of other participants.
12. Data Protection

Any personal information collected during bookings or enquiries will be processed securely and in accordance with UK GDPR regulations.

We believe that every child has the right to participate in science activities in a safe, positive and supportive environment. We take all reasonable steps to protect children from harm, abuse, neglect and inappropriate behaviour.
This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors and anyone working on behalf of About Science Ltd.

4. Responsibility for Safeguarding
About Science Ltd recognises that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
All adults working with children on behalf of About Science Ltd are expected to:

Where activities take place in schools or other organised settings, About Science Ltd staff will also work in accordance with the safeguarding procedures of the host organisation.
5. Safer Practice
To help protect children, About Science Ltd will aim to ensure that staff and representatives:

avoid being alone with a child where possible unless this is part of an agreed and safe working arrangement

do not engage in inappropriate physical contact

do not use inappropriate language, jokes or behaviour

challenge or report inappropriate behaviour by others
6. Supervision and Collection
Children must be supervised in line with the arrangements advertised for each activity.
For parent or carer attended sessions, responsibility for the child remains with the parent or carer throughout the activity.
For drop-off sessions, About Science Ltd will clearly communicate start and finish times, collection arrangements and any requirements for authorised collection.
If a child is not collected on time, reasonable steps will be taken to contact the parent or carer. The child will remain supervised until suitable arrangements are made.
7. Responding to Concerns
If a member of staff, volunteer or representative of About Science Ltd:

sees something that causes concern
-
receives a disclosure from a child
-
notices signs of possible abuse or neglect
-
becomes aware of inappropriate behaviour by an adult or another child
they must take the concern seriously and report it promptly in line with company procedures.
No promise of confidentiality should be given to a child making a disclosure. They should be reassured that they have done the right thing and that the information will only be shared with people who need to know in order to help keep them safe.
Accurate written records of concerns should be made as soon as possible.
8. Working with Schools and Venues
Where About Science Ltd delivers activities at schools, nurseries, community venues or other organisations, we will cooperate with the host setting’s safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Any safeguarding concerns arising during a session may be reported to the designated safeguarding lead of the host organisation and, where appropriate, to relevant authorities.
9. Photography, Video and Online Safety
Photographs and videos of children will only be taken or used where appropriate permission has been obtained.
Parents and carers attending sessions may take photographs of their own children, but they must respect the privacy and safety of others.
For online sessions, reasonable measures will be taken to ensure digital safety, including using suitable platforms and appropriate supervision arrangements.
10. Equality and Inclusion
About Science Ltd is committed to safeguarding all children equally, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief, culture, language, family background or sexual orientation.
We recognise that some children may be more vulnerable and may require additional support or protection.
11. Reporting Concerns
Any safeguarding concern must be acted on without delay.
Where there is immediate risk of harm, emergency services should be contacted straight away.
Where appropriate, concerns may also be referred to the relevant local authority children’s services, the police, the school’s designated safeguarding lead, or another appropriate safeguarding body.
